Spectacles Of

Sea Life & Natural Wonder

The shores of Puerto Deseado, Isla Pingüinito and Port Stanley have been enticing wildlife enthusiasts and nature-loving adventurists for centuries, including Charles Darwin’s famed expedition on the HMS Beagle. Understandably, as the destinations – and the islands that surround them – are thriving habitats for several penguin species, curious black and white Commerson’s dolphins, red-legged cormorants, albatrosses and more.

From Buenos Aires’ sophistication and culture, venture into Patagonia and beyond, where wildlife outnumbers human life by millions and only the boldest explorers tread. Boasting as much maritime history as scientific clout, the Falkland Islands and remote isles of Argentina have stories to tell. Learn about the Yaghan and Ona Indians who tended the flames of Tierra del Fuego, and the straits explored by Magellan in the 16th century.

Argentina’s finest wool originates from the Patagonian city of Puerto Madryn, where pioneers from Scotland and England once settled on small farms and sheep ranches. Thecity lies on the shores of the Golfo Nuevo, along the southern coast of Argentina, and although not particularly blessed with buildings of great architectural significance or beautiful scenery, it is nonetheless recognized for its wonderful opportunities to view such wildlife as sea elephants, sea lions, penguins and birds.

Day 05 - Camarones, Argentina

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Camarones, Argentina

Fringed by the Atlantic Ocean in Argentina’s southern region of Patagonia, Camarones is a quiet town known for its beaches, water sports and fishing industry. Former Argentinian president Juan Domingo Perón lived in Camarones as a child and his home now serves as a museum showcasing the family’s history. Among the town’s other attractions is the nearby Cabo Dos Bahías, a nature reserve boasting a colony of Magellanic penguins as well as sea lions, fur seals, guanacos, foxes, and cormorants.

On the southeastern shores of Argentina, Puerto Deseado is a tranquil fishing port situated along the Ría Deseado, a magnificent estuary and nature reserve once explored by Charles Darwin. A habitat for numerous species of seabirds and marine wildlife, visitors might spot sea lions, penguins, cormorants or the rare Commerson’s dolphin. The town features a number of museums, including one displaying artifacts from the British warship HMS Swift, which sank off the coast of Deseado in 1776.

ARRIVE – AFTERNOON

DEPART – EVENING

Isla Pingüino, Argentina

Situated off Argentina’s southeastern coast, the small, rugged Isla Pingüino (Penguin Island) is part of the Isla Pingüino Coastal Marine Park, which encompasses nearly 720 square miles of pristine sea and shoreline. Charles Darwin’s famous voyage aboard HMS Beagle explored the region in 1833. The protected area is home to an abundance of wildlife, including sea lions, elephant seals, and red-legged cormorants. The aptly named island is a popular nesting spot for southern rockhopper penguins.
