Canary Islands

To Copacabana

It’s clear why Winston Churchill favored Funchal for holiday getaways, with its rugged island peaks and vibrant blossoms, and why the remarkable laurel rainforest in San Sebastian, La Gomera is prized by UNESCO. Explore these natural treasures on a trans-ocean journey that begins in the glittering sun of the Canary Islands. Sate your sweet tooth in Santa Cruz, La Palma, where mangoes, papayas, passion fruit and sugarcane are always on offer, and dive deep into the welcoming waters of Madeira.

In Dakar, you’ll find rich tales of a tumultuous past and an emerging cultural and international art scene, while Banjul marries rich cultural highlights with wildlife-rich mangrove wetlands and vibrantly colorful markets in a tiny piece of island bliss where the River Gambia meets the Atlantic.

Day At Sea

Days at sea are an indulgent invitation to take full advantage of Crystal Endeavor’s luxurious amenities and services, from pampering interludes at the Crystal Life Spa & Salon or invigorating work-outs in the state-of-the-art fitness center to wine tastings, culinary presentations, lectures on art and history, or even a date with Lady Luck at the Resorts World at Sea Casino. Earning its nickname with the sprawling golden beaches that ring the island, contrasted by deep blue sea that welcomes snorkelers and divers nearly year-round, Porto Santo has been a haven for those seeking respite since Christopher Columbus. Today, beyond the abundant outdoor pursuits exploring the island’s beauty and warm waters, travelers can also visit Columbus’ home in the capital city of Vila Baleira.

Sample the famed Madeira wine while relaxing in one of the island’s numerous cafés.

The least-known of the Canary Islands, densely wooded La Gomera is home to Garajonay National Park, a world heritage site that protects the largest laurel rainforest remaining on earth. Columbus stopped for water in the little capital of San Sebastian before crossing the Atlantic. He planned to stay four days, but spent a month when he met the lovely Beatriz de Bobadilla. Discovered and colonized by the Portuguese, the island—part of the 10-island country of Cape Verde—has European roots, and a claim as the first European outpost in the tropics.
