Highland Highlights &

Breathtaking Fjords

Jagged peaks that rise steeply from the sea created the framework for one of earth’s most dramatic landscapes. Make the narrow passage through Trollfjord, one of Norway’s most picturesque coastlines and said to be the origin of the legends of trolls. Ashore in destinations like Vega Island, set out in the largely unexplored wildlands, and make Reine the starting point for your hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing quests. The Lofoten Archipelago will also enchant you with its ethereal beauty and playgrounds for adventure.

Cultural adventures about here, as Bergen – a UNESCO World Heritage City and European Capital of Culture – reflects its days as a royal residence and epicenter of Norway’s religious corps. Tromsø offers a glimpse into the region’s scientific innovations, while Svolvaer remembers the time of the mighty Vikings and Kirkwall is an excellent example of a Norse settlement.

Itinerary

Day 01 - Tromsø, Norway

EMBARK – PM

DEPART – 5 PM

Tromsø, Norway

Long renowned as an important center of science and exploration, Tromsø lies on a forest-covered island in a narrow waterway, hemmed in by steep mountains and connected to the mainland by a bridge. The imaginative Arctic Cathedral, the Polaria Centre and a scenic cable car ride are among its varied attractions.

Day 02 - Skarsvag, Norway

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Skarsvag, Norway

Bearing the distinction as the world’s northernmost fishing village, Skarsvag is located on the island of Magerøya just eight miles from the North Cape. The geological wonder of Kirkeporten here is a marvel that magnifies the midnight sun, which shines through the several meters-long fissure in the rocky cliff, creating breathtaking views and reflections.

Day 03 - CRUISING TROLLFJORD & SVOLVAER, NORWAY

ARRIVE – AFTERNOON

DEPART – EVENING

Day At Sea

Days at sea are an indulgent invitation to take full advantage of Crystal Endeavor’s luxurious amenities and services, from pampering interludes at the Crystal Life Spa & Salon or invigorating work-outs in the state-of-the-art fitness center to wine tastings, culinary presentations, lectures on art and history, or even a date with Lady Luck at the Resorts World at Sea Casino. Of course, the real thrill remains the opportunity for wildlife sightings with our Expedition Team keeping an eye out for nature’s wonders in addition to leading enriching presentations and conversational lectures unique to each destination.

ARRIVE – EVENING

DEPART – OVERNIGHT

Svolvaer, Norway

This largest town in the Loftoen Archipelago is 360 degrees of beautiful. Look in any direction and be rewarded with vistas that have not likely changed much since the mighty Vikings sailed these waters, save for the few colorful fishing structures and quaint town center. The tiny downtown packs much into its small space – art galleries, upscale restaurants, boutique shopping. The nearby Lofotr Viking Museum offers a fascinating perspective into the region’s history of exploration.

Day 04 - SVOLVAER & REINE, NORWAY

ARRIVE – OVERNIGHT

DEPART – AFTERNOON

Svolvaer, Norway

This largest town in the Loftoen Archipelago is 360 degrees of beautiful. Look in any direction and be rewarded with vistas that have not likely changed much since the mighty Vikings sailed these waters, save for the few colorful fishing structures and quaint town center. The tiny downtown packs much into its small space – art galleries, upscale restaurants, boutique shopping. The nearby Lofotr Viking Museum offers a fascinating perspective into the region’s history of exploration.

ARRIVE – AFTERNOON

DEPART – EVENING

Reine, Norway

It’s been called the most beautiful place in the world, perhaps best observed from the summit of Reinebergen Mountain overlooking the village on the island of Moskenesøya. It is one of the best hubs for hiking, biking, kayaking and skiing in the Lofoten Archipelago, lying north of the Arctic Circle. And while its natural grandeur is immeasurable, Reine’s population of permanent residents is measured at just over 300 individuals, operating the thriving fishing village and welcoming visitors.

Day 05 - Vega Island, Norway

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – AFTERNOON

Vega Island, Norway

UNESCO-protected and boasting more than 6,500 islands, islets and reefs, the Vega Archipelago is a vast of largely unexplored natural wildlands just south of the Arctic Circle. While the pace of life here is known to be leisurely, that does not mean a lack of activity, as the islands are prime locales for all manner of adventure. Vega Island is the largest of the group, which has sustained a thriving fishing culture for more than 1,500 years.

Day 06 - Ålesund, Norway

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Ålesund, Norway

Charmingly eccentric and steeped in its own very unique architecture, Alesund boasts an outrageous collection of pastel-colored buildings, with towers and turrets, alongside (surprise!) pharaohs and dragons that peer down upon fascinated passersby. It’s architecture is a surprising result and a testament to its citizens coming together to rebuild their city after a devastating fire in 1904. It took three years of construction, fueled by the Jugenstil movement, embodying a style that most closely resembles Art Nouveau. The result: uncommonly wonderful.

Day 07 - FLÅM & BERGEN, NORWAY

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

FLÅM, Norway

Boasting dramatic nature and a serene atmosphere, the tiny village of Flåm is situated in the innermost part of the Sognefjord and surrounded by breathtaking mountains. From this tranquil area, one of the world’s most remarkably engineered railway lines originates and winds its way far above the sea, providing views of some of Norway’s wildest and most magnificent scenery. At the foot of the mountains, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the Flåm Valley and admire the majestic Aurlandfjord.

Day 08 - Bergen, Norway

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Bergen, Norway

A UNESCO World Heritage City treasure and a European Capital of Culture, beguiling Bergen is surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest. In its heyday, Norwegian Kings resided here, and there were no less than 27 churches and abbeys. An immaculate city, locals take great pride in their rich seafaring history and hold firm to traditional values.

Day 09 - LERWICK, SHETLAND ISLANDS, UK

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Lerwick, Shetland Islands, UK

Located at the northern tip of the British Isles, nearly 50 miles northeast of the Orkneys, the Shetland Islands are a mosaic of more than a 100 islands. Craggy cliffs sculpted by turbulent seas are in stark contrast to the tranquil, sandy bays and flower-strewn meadows found here.

Day 10 - KIRKWALL, ORKNEY ISLANDS, UK

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – EVENING

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, UK

A place of contrasts and balance, Kirkwall offers the high points of a large Scottish city – stellar local shopping and impressive historical sites like the St. Magnus Cathedral and ruins of the Bishop’s Palace and Earl’s Palace – as well as the charms of a small village. It is a relatively quiet ferry landing town that is also an excellent example of an ancient Norse settlement, making Kirkwall itself a living museum.

Day 11-12 - EDINBURGH (LEITH), UK

ARRIVE – MORNING

DEPART – AFTERNOON

Edinburgh (Leith), UK

Dominated by a medieval castle on a towering crag, Edinburgh is the celebrated capital of Scotland and boasts more than a thousand years of vibrant historical heritage. The Exchange building, the famous Royal Mile featuring St. Giles Cathedral and John Knox House, as well as Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queens official residence in Scotland, are only a few of the architectural masterpieces found in this delightful Scottish city.

Day 13 - CRUISING THE NORTH SEA & LONDON (GREENWICH), UK

London (Greenwich), UK

Located the banks of the River Thames, Greenwich is home to rich history both regal and naval – with UNESCO-designated palaces, museums and London’s prettiest royal park. But more than anything, Greenwich is home to time itself for it is here that the world’s Prime Meridian – longitude zero – is marked in the Royal Observatory.
